I’m Maya, a campaigner, journalist, researcher and multimedia artist based in the UK. I use varied means to bring the testimony and data associated with human rights violations to a wider audience, prompt overdue discussions in the press and Parliament, and help move the needle towards systemic change.

As founder and director of the anti-trafficking organisation After Exploitation, I lead data investigations uncovering the UK government’s practice of locking up trafficking survivors under immigration powers, refusing survivors compensation, and failures to ensure survivors’ access to counselling. You can read access the full archive of my Freedom of Information (FOI) requests here and my journalistic writing here.

Through art, I interrogate and document pressing social phenomena, including economic inequality, environmental degradation, barriers to justice and labour rights violations. This year, I worked as part of a team co-creating immersive art installation exploring the conditions of safe housing for survivors of modern slavery. Read more about the group show here.

Whatever I learn, I am keen to share. I regularly run community workshops exploring lino and fabric printing, and portraiture with tiered pricing accounting for income.
